Kathryn strolled down the beach. It was quite a beautiful day and she badly needed some rest after recent events. Some aliens, which hadn't even introduced themselves, seemed very intent on destroying Voyager. Their ships weren't very powerful, but what they lacked in firepower, they more than adequately compensated by sheer determination. After a very strenuous couple of weeks, Voyager seemed to move out of their space. The crew was exhausted and ship's systems badly needed repairs. When Harry spotted this planet on long range scans, it was like a gift from heaven. The planet was M-class, uninhabited and of temperate climate. There weren't any warp trails in the vicinity of the system, so it was safe to assume this world was rarely visited by space travelers. It lacked significant resources, was far from inhabited systems and of no strategic value, but for shore leave it was perfect.
They landed the ship only yesterday. The Captain usually insisted on staying aboard, at least for duration for the most immediate repairs, but this time she decided to let Chakotay breathe down their engineers' necks, much to his delight. She badly needed a respite, a moment away from Voyager, ships business, being the Captain. The view of the ocean was breathtaking. Some rare, but completely harmless compound, for some mysterious reason, was in abundant in the water, giving it a really exquisite shade of blue. This was that kind of place where Captain Janeway allowed herself to be just Kathryn for awhile and not think about her work at all.
After couple of hours of walking, she knew she had to go back soon. Kathryn had badly needed her rest, but ship and crew still needed their captain. There were tons of reports waiting for her on her desk, B'Elanna wouldn't mind some help in engineering and, of course, she couldn't leave Chakotay in charge for too long. He would never admit it to her, but recent events had their toll on him as much as on everyone else. He needed his rest, too.
"I may tell him about this beach after I get back. It will do him good," she thought. "Maybe after repairs are over, we could have some time together here."
The magnificent silhouette of Voyager was visible from quite a distance. As she headed back, Kathryn was slowly disappearing and the Captain was equally slowly, but more persistently taking her place.
"So, Commander, what have you done to my ship while I was gone?"
The End
I'd love some feedback.
